Steve Earle - Down The Road - 1986
Lyrics

On the blue side of evenin'
When the darkness takes control
You start lookin' for a reason
To take your lonesome on down the road
'Cause the night is filled with strangers
All you need is one you know
And if she ain't the one you're after
Keep on lookin' on down the road

Though the miles lay long behind you
You have still got miles to go
How's love ever gonna find you
If it ain't here it's down the road

Keep on lookin' on down the road

Trivia

Whatever happened to the Steve Earle of yesteryear? Seems he's sacrificed his talent and faithful fans in favor of political agendas these days. We saw it coming but were hopeful he's come to his senses and get back to producing what his fans came to love, rather than alienating most of them to take the podium through his music.

The simple but well composed number, "Down the Road", is the last track on Guitar Town, the debut album from singer/songwriter Steve Earle, released on March 5, 1986. It topped the Billboard country album charts, and the title song reached #7 on the country singles charts.

The album was recorded in late 1985 and early 1986 in Nashville, Tennessee, at Sound Stage Studio. Overdubs were later recorded at Nashville's Emerald Studios. It was one of the first country music albums to be recorded digitally, utilizing the state-of-the-art Mitsubishi X-800. Each of the album's ten tracks were either written or co-written by Earle.
